- Call to Order: Committee Chair Graziano called the meeting to order at 5:07 pm.
- Roll Call: Members Graziano, Jerch, and Library Director Grassi were present.
- Public Comment: There was none.
- Approve Committee Minutes from July 10, 2024. Graziano moved and Jerch seconded to approve with the correction of the date to July 10; all aye.
- Library Director Updates:
- Staffing Analysis Report: Finance Committee met re: staffing analysis, which Grassi went over in detail. Two positions were approved per Grassi’s request: a hybrid Library Associate and a Cataloguing Librarian. When recounting conversations with Jamie Rachlin, Grassi noted that the comparable libraries he chose were in very different socioeconomic populations; expectations are high in Lake Bluff. Grassi also noted that she is still missing analyses of percentage of time per staff member on desk duty and other categories; these have been started but are not yet complete. Graziano spoke with Jamie Rachlin re: what analysis he can do, taking more of the analysis off Grassi’s workload. Graziano suggests doing a current analysis, them move forward in Jan. ’25 when the EA Strategic Facilities Plan comes in. Rachlin will need to put in a new proposal for this work. Grassi will ask Rachlin for this deliverable: what staffing model do we need to operate with the hours we now have, and if we increase hours, what staffing and costs will be necessary. We want to use data to solve the problem of turnover.
- Organizational Updates: Finance Committee suggested waiting until we have a new IGA and a check from the Village in hand before we have a new Cataloguing Librarian start. We also need to know where we’re going if Grassi leaves Lake Bluff Library.
- Review of Graziano’s Research: The HR Committee should research other area libraries’ personnel/HR policies in preparation for our work in rewriting our policies.
- Executive Session: There was none.
