Drive-up book drop closure

Why is the library’s drive-up book drop unavailable?
In February, the access door staff use to empty the book drop unexpectedly broke. Staff are currently unable to open the access door to retrieve items.

Are you removing the drive-up book drop?
No; the drive-up book drop is an important service that makes the Library more accessible to patrons, and we are committed to continuing to offer it. Our current book drop has reached the end of its useful lifespan and it needs to be replaced. We have ordered a replacement unit and are waiting for it to be delivered and installed.

How will the new book drop be different than the old unit?
The new model will be a significant improvement in design and usability. The new book drop is more weather resistant, secure, and durable. It will also have reflective tape for improved nighttime visibility, as well as ADA compliant Braille signage. Ergonomic improvements to the carts will also make it easier and safer for staff to operate. It’s also 100% recyclable, so when this model reaches the end of its useful lifespan, it will not be disposed of in a landfill.

When will the new book drop be installed?
We don’t have an exact date yet, but expect installation will take place in late spring. We’ll share updates on our website and social media as soon as they are available.

Where should I return my items while the book drop is closed?
We have a walk-up exterior book drop right by the Library entrance that is available 24/7. You can also drop off your items at the circulation desk during normal operating hours.

What if I have additional questions or concerns?
Please feel free to contact Renee Grassi, Library Director, with any questions or concerns you may have.

We appreciate your continued patience and understanding as we work on improving this service. We look forward to opening our new and improved book drop later this spring.
