Part-time: 15 hours per week; additional evening and weekend hours may be required.
Schedule: Includes alternating Saturdays from 9:30am – 5:15pm and occasional Thursday evenings 5pm – 8:15pm

Job Summary:

Lake Bluff Public Library is seeking a friendly, customer service-oriented individual to work in the Circulation and Reference Department. The Circulation and Reference Department is the primary service point in the library, and provides customer service to patrons of all ages. The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented and able to manage multiple responsibilities (sometimes simultaneously), have excellent communication skills, and possess a willingness to learn. Additionally, they will be able to make problem-solving decisions, work well within a team, and also work independently with minimal supervision.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) credential
  • At least one year experience working in a customer service setting

Ability to communicate effectively across multiple mediums including in-person conversations, over the phone, and through email

  • Proficient with computers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in libraries
  • Experience working with technology and troubleshooting questions 
  • Knowledge of popular literature and media for all ages

Responsibilities

Including but not limited to the following tasks:

  • Assists patrons in locating library materials
  • Checks out materials for patrons at the circulation desk
  • Offers prompt and accurate customer service to patrons
  • Updates and accurately maintains library card accounts
  • Provides reference and reader’s advisory to patrons of all ages
  • Assists with basic troubleshooting on computers and equipment, such as assisting with printing, email, and personal devices
  • Provides assistance for downloading digital materials and accessing online resources
  • Assists with other projects as needed

Work Environment

The work is both active and sedentary. Work may include carrying of lightweight items, such as books and other library materials, or pushing of book carts.
