Library Associate (Circulation and Reference)

Job Title: Library Associate
Salary: $17.00 per hour
Benefits: pro-rated personal time
Part-time: 15 hours per week
Schedule: Includes Tuesday afternoons from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm, and two Saturdays per month from 9:45 am – 5:15 pm.

Job Summary:

Lake Bluff Public Library is seeking a friendly and customer service-oriented individual to work in the Circulation and Reference Department. The Circulation and Reference Department is the primary service point in the library, and provides customer service to patrons of all ages. The ideal candidate will have excellent communication skills and a willingness to learn, will be able to manage multiple responsibilities and make problem-solving decisions, and can thrive in a fast-paced environment.

Minimum Qualifications

  • At least one year experience working in a customer service setting

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in libraries
  • Experience working with technology and troubleshooting questions
  • Knowledge of popular literature and media for all ages

Responsibilities

Including but not limited to the following tasks:

  • Assists patrons in locating library materials
  • Checks out materials for patrons at the circulation desk
  • Offers prompt and accurate customer service to patrons
  • Updates and maintains library card accounts
  • Provides reference and reader’s advisory to patrons of all ages
  • Assists with basic troubleshooting on computers and equipment, such as assisting with printing, email, and personal devices
  • Provides assistance for downloading digital materials and accessing online resources
  • Assists with collection-based projects as needed

Work Environment

The work is both active and sedentary. Work may include carrying of lightweight items, such as books and other library materials, or pushing of book carts.

Substitute Librarian (Circulation and Reference)

Job Title: Substitute Librarian
Salary: $20.00 per hour
Benefits: pro-rated personal time
Part-time: Approximately 15-20 hours per month
Schedule: May include both advanced scheduling of shifts or last minute requests; flexibility in scheduling required, especially weekday evenings and some weekends

Job Summary: Lake Bluff Public Library is seeking a customer service-oriented substitute librarian to work at the Reference Desk in the Circulation and Reference Department, which is the primary service point in the library and provides customer service to patrons of all ages. The ideal candidate will have flexibility in scheduling and availability, excellent communication skills, a willingness to learn, and be a team player dedicated to providing a high level of customer service.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s of Library and Information Science from an ALA-accredited library school
  • At least one year experience working in a public library
  • At least one year experience providing direct customer service to all ages

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of and experience providing assistance with ebooks and digital audiobooks on patron devices
  • Knowledge of and experience providing assistance with library technologies and resources, including databases
  • Knowledge of literature and media for all ages and experience with reader’s advisory

Responsibilities

Including but not limited to the following tasks:

  • Offers prompt and accurate customer service to patrons
  • Provides reference and reader’s advisory to patrons of all ages
  • Assists patrons in locating library materials
  • Assists with troubleshooting on computers and library technologies, such as assisting with printing, scanning, copying, email, and personal devices
  • Provides assistance for downloading digital materials and trouble shooting
  • Provides assistance with using databases and other library online resources
  • Updates and maintains library card accounts
  • Act as Person in Charge of the Library as needed
  • Assists with small circulation, collection or programming-based projects as needed
  • Checks out materials for patrons at the Circulation desk as needed
  • May provide desk coverage in the Youth Services Department as needed
