"What should I read next?"

Has this ever happened to you? You know you want to read something, but you’re just not sure what. Maybe you want something that’s just like that great book you read a couple weeks ago, or maybe you’re looking to branch out and try something new.

If this sounds familiar, we have good news: the Library can help! Below are some great reader’s advisory resources that can help you navigate the wild world of what to read next:

In-Person Reader’s Advisory

We have a number of trained reader’s advisors on staff. Come in and talk to one of our staff members working at the reference desk upstairs (or at the main desk in the Children’s Department if you’re looking for youth materials) and we’ll see what we can find for you.

Take Ten

You can also submit a Take Ten request and one of our trained reader’s advisors will pull 10 books, movies, or music CDs for you to check out.

Novelist

If you have a Lake Bluff Library card, or if you’re connected to our WiFi, you also have access to Novelist. Novelist is a Reader’s Advisory database that is designed to help you find your next great read. Novelist has summaries, reviews, and read-alikes for a variety of fiction and non-fiction titles for all ages.

Also: have you checked our digital shelves? We have a robust eBook, eAudiobook, and streaming music collection that is available to Lake Bluff Library cardholders. Visit our eBooks and Downloadables page for more information on these services, as well as step-by-step instructions.

Questions? Email our reference desk or call the Library at 847-234-2540.
