Warming and Cooling Centers in Lake County
During extreme weather events, it's important to know where you can go to stay safe. The following information includes symptoms of heat- and cold-related illnesses, along with local resources where residents can seek relief during high heat or extreme cold.
In an emergency, always call 911.
Heat-Related Illnesses and Symptoms
Dehydration
- Dry mouth and lips
- Headache or dizziness
- Dark yellow urine or reduced urination
Heat Exhaustion
- Heavy sweating
- Nausea or vomiting
- Fatigue or weakness
- Cool, clammy skin
Heat Stroke (medical emergency)
- Body temperature above 103°F
- Hot, red, dry or damp skin
- Confusion, slurred speech, or disorientation
- Loss of consciousness
Call 911 immediately if heat stroke is suspected.
Cold-Related Illnesses and Symptoms
Frostbite
- Cold or numb skin, especially fingers, toes, ears, or nose
- Skin appears white, grayish-yellow, or waxy
- Skin feels unusually firm or “wooden”
Hypothermia (medical emergency)
- Shivering
- Slurred speech or confusion
- Drowsiness or exhaustion
- Weak pulse or shallow breathing
Call 911 immediately if hypothermia is suspected.
