Job Summary:

The Lake Bluff Public Library is seeking a part-time Outreach Associate to join our Community Engagement Department! This role supports our growing community programming and helps strengthen the Library’s role as an active, engaged presence throughout Lake Bluff.

We’re looking for someone who is friendly, creative, and energized by working with people. In this role, you’ll help develop and coordinate programs that bring neighbors together, spark curiosity, and encourage personal enjoyment and lifelong learning. You’ll also support outreach across Lake Bluff—collaborating with local nonprofits, engaging with community members at events, and sharing all the ways the Library enhances and enriches daily life.

If you’re the kind of person who loves building relationships, enjoys bringing ideas to life, and thinks talking about Library services sounds like fun, we’d love to meet you.

Minimum Qualifications

  • A four-year college degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Experience working with community-focused organizations such as libraries, nonprofits, or customer service environments.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate effectively with community partners, patrons, and staff.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with workflows and common software tools (e.g., MS Office, Teams) preferred.
  • Comfort incorporating technology into programming and public services.
  • Experience assisting with or working at public events.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and support the Library’s established outreach efforts—serving as a community liaison and Library representative at community-wide events. These efforts include collaborative programs such as Read Between the Ravines with the Lake Forest Library, participation in the Lake Bluff Fourth of July Parade, joint movie nights with the Gorton Community Center and Lake Bluff Park District, stewardship of the Little Free Library at the Park District, and other ongoing community partnerships.
  • Cultivate new partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and community groups to expand the Library’s presence throughout Lake Bluff.
  • Create, plan, and implement all-ages community programs and events, engaging community members in conversations about Library services, resources, and upcoming events during both in-house and offsite programs.
  • Support the Community Engagement Manager with outreach and additional programming needs throughout the Village of Lake Bluff.
  • Track program attendance and gather participant feedback to help evaluate and improve community programming.
  • Assist with setup, teardown, and day-of coordination for outreach events and Library programs.
  • Maintain program materials, outreach supplies, and scheduling information to support smooth delivery of events.

Work Environment

  • Occasional travel expected to partnering libraries and organizations.
  • This position does require a commitment to working evenings and weekends as needed to best serve the needs of the community.
  • Lift up to 50lbs with assistive equipment.
  • Standing/sitting for extended periods of time; ability to move safely and easily from sitting to standing.
