Trustee Appointment Application

The Lake Bluff Public Library is soliciting applications for an appointment to an open trustee position for a term beginning June 2026. The appointment will be for one year. The appointee will be required to run to retain their seat for the remaining two years of the term in the 2027 election. The appointment process will be as follows:

• May 7 - 17: The appointment application window opens. Submissions are due by the last day of the application window.
• May 19: The Board reviews all trustee appointment applications and determines finalists. All applicants will be notified of their finalist status.
• June 2: The Board will conduct interviews for appointee finalists during the regularly scheduled Committee of the Whole meeting. 
• June 16: The selected appointee will be sworn in at the regularly scheduled Board meeting.

The Lake Bluff Public Library seeks the following qualifications in a Board member:

1. Mindset: Desire to serve one’s community as board membership is a labor of love. Represent the diverse needs of the Lake Bluff community, not just your personal beliefs. A commitment to the Freedom to Read. A willingness to dig into the role and contribute on committees and at community engagement events.
2. Competencies: Ability to integrate the viewpoints of the variety of library stakeholders – staff, patrons, board, etc. and willingness to work towards consensus. Strategic thinker and open to innovative ideas. Strong communication and interpersonal skills as Library Trustees are needed to interact with community partners and the community at large.
3. Preferred Professional Experience: In order to provide breadth and balance to the Library Board, the following professional backgrounds would be most beneficial: Change Management, Finance, Legal and/or municipal experience. Marketing, Communications and community engagement experience would also be helpful.
