New Committee of the Whole Format Approved

05/21/2025

The Lake Bluff Library Board is committed to making Library governance more transparent, efficient, and accessible. At the May 20, 2025 Regular Board Meeting, the Board voted to consolidate all committee meetings into Committee of the Whole meetings, beginning Tuesday, July 1, 2025. This new structure will bring every Board member together in a single, open forum—allowing you to see every stage of discussion and decision-making.

Why this change benefits our community

  • Full participation: Instead of fragmenting discussions across smaller committees, the Committee of the Whole ensures that every Board member hears your input firsthand—and that no one misses out on important dialogue.
  • Greater transparency: Under the Open Meetings Act, previous committee meetings were held as needed. Moving to a regularly scheduled Committee of the Whole ensures consistent public access to all policy, budget, and facility conversations.
  • Streamlined scheduling: With clearly defined meeting dates, it’s easier to plan your attendance.
    • Committee of the Whole: First Tuesday of every month at 7:00pm, beginning July 1, 2025, in person at 123 E. Scranton Ave., LB
    • Regular Board Meetings: Third Tuesday of every month at 7:00pm in the Library or virtually via Zoom (unchanged).
  • Focused agendas: While every meeting provides an opportunity to address policy, budget, and facility matters, not every topic will be covered each month—allowing the Board to focus on the most pressing issues and have more in-depth discussions.
  • Efficient decision-making: By bringing matters directly to the full Board on a regular schedule, we eliminate irregular committee timing and reduce delays—so policy changes, facility improvements, and outreach partnerships move forward more quickly.

We welcome and encourage you to join us at every Committee of the Whole and Regular Board meeting. Your voice is vital to shaping Library services that meet our community’s needs. As always, meeting agendas and minutes are posted online as soon as they’re available.
