Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month

Each year, Americans observe National Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 to October 15, by celebrating the histories, cultures and contributions of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America.

In recognition and celebration of the many stories, perspectives, and voices in the Latinx and Hispanic communities, we invite you to browse our curated reading list in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month.

Banned Books Week: a Letter from the Library Director

From the Library Director

From October 1 through October 7, the Library will recognize Banned Books Week to celebrate our freedom to read. This initiative spotlights current and historical attempts to censor and restrict access to books in libraries and schools. Given the current state of book banning in the U.S., this year’s Banned Books Week feels more important than ever before.

Commemorating Juneteenth

On this date in 1865, Union soldiers landed at Galveston, Texas with news that the war had ended and the last enslaved people learned that they were free—more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was given. Today, Lake Bluff Public Library joins our community and the nation in celebration of Juneteenth, a federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States.

Improvements to email notifications coming June 6

Starting June 6, the Lake Bluff Public Library will be rolling out changes to our email notifications. A major update to our software now allows us a greater degree of customization and flexibility with our email notices. These improved communications will be more visually appealing, have better mobile/tablet compatibility, and will provide you with more useful information about items checked out to your account. Additionally, automated bounce handling will allow us to more effectively troubleshoot problems with email message delivery.
